BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
George Akerson was born in Minneapolis on September 5th, 1889. He attended Allegheny College in Pennsylvania before graduating from Harvard in 1912. Akerson joined the staff of the Minneapolis Tribune as a general correspondent. In 1921 he became the Washington correspondent and was promoted to assistant managing editor in 1923. Akerson was hired as Herbert Hoover’s secretary in 1926 and helped the Presidential campaign of 1928. He served as President Hoover’s press secretary until 1931 when he left to work at Paramount-Publix in Hollywood. George Akerson died December 22, 1937.

There are numerous folders containing a small amount of material from a wide range of sources arranged alphabetically within the folders. They are indicated with the designation GROUP followed by the alphabetical range contained in the folders.

The collection has been divided into three series:

The bulk of this series consists of correspondence with journalists and relatives from 1926-1928 when George Akerson was Herbert Hoover's assistant in the Commerce Department. 

Material includes: correspondence, memos, clippings, articles, and speeches Arranged alphabetically.

CAMPAIGN AND TRANSITION FILES, 1927-1929

The series contains correspondence, memos, clippings, receipts, bills, press releases and publications. The material was compiled from the presidential campaign of 1928 through the inauguration. It includes correspondence concerning the Latin America trip.
