Manuscript Collections - Vincent Starzinger Papers

VINCENT STARZINGER PAPERS,
2 linear feet, 3 linear inches (5 LGA-S boxes)
Herbert Hoover Presidential Library

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

Vincent Starzinger, general counsel for the Des Moines Register, attended law school with Robert A. Taft. Taft and Starzinger remained life‑long friends and these papers reflect Starzinger's activities in the campaigns of 1948 and 1952. Many "behind the scenes" glimpses are provided in correspondence with Taft, David S. Ingalls, and numerous Iowa political figures.

After Taft's death in 1953, Starzinger became a member of the board of the Taft Memorial Foundation, serving until 1972. The activities of the foundation are reflected in correspondence, minutes, and plans for the memorial and its dedication.

The collection also contains a small quantity of Starzinger’s speeches, 1917‑72.
