SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This was originally a research collection used by Herbert Hoover while writing volume four of An American Epic. The materials were assembled by Perrin Galpin in 1956, who created typescripts of excerpts from letters, diaries and notes in the Hugh Gibson Papers at the Hoover Institution Archives. The period 1910 to 1930 is primarily documented through letters from Gibson to his mother Mary, while the trip with Hoover to survey famine conditions around the world in 1946 and 1947 is documented through Gibson’s diaries. The collection also includes brief notes between Galpin and Hoover regarding the documents, presumably written in 1956.
