BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Bernard H. Fraser was born as Hermann B. Frese on May 14, 1908 in Bremen, Germany. He moved to the United States in 1928 for a job with a New York shipping firm. At the outset of World War II, Frese began to work for the Commission for Polish Relief, compiling statistics, making reports, and serving as press agent. This work continued through 1941 as the organization expanded into the National Committee on Food for the Small Democracies. Frese then entered the military, working with Navy logistics at the Office of the Quartermaster General and until the end of the war.  After the war, Frese changed his name to Bernard H. Fraser.  He worked for UNICEF from 1947 until retiring in 1977 and died in October 1998.
