BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Charles Wittenmeyer was born September 3, 1903 in Centerville, Iowa. He received his law degree from Drake University in 1928 and moved to Davenport in 1933 to set up his law firm.  Wittenmeyer attended the Republican National Convention in 1928. He was elected county chairman, district chairman, and Republican National Committeeman in 1956. Wittenmeyer was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1944, 1956, 1960, 1964 and 1972. He retired his position of Iowa Republican National Committeeman in 1972. Wittenmeyer died August 9, 1994.

The papers provide an overview of Wittenmeyer’s political work with the Republican National Committee and the Iowa Republican Party. The newspaper clippings provide more detail. The materials are arranged alphabetically by subject or type of material.
