JOHN L. WANN PAPERS, 1918-1989 BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE John L. Wann, agricultural economist for the United States Department of Agriculture, was born February 9, 1895. Wann earned his BS from Purdue University in 1921, an MSA from the University of Florida in 1932, and continued his education at the University of California and the Brookings Institute. His areas of expertise were price controls, surplus management, and international marketing. His career with the USDA spanned thirty years into the 1960s. Wann also worked in developing nations, serving as wheat coordinator in West Pakistan and as agricultural credit advisor in Thailand. After retireming Wann wrote several reminiscences. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The papers primarily document Wann’s work with the United States Department of Agriculture and stories written after retirement. The collection is arranged in two series: UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE FILES PERSONAL FILES Professional-USDA, 1934-1963 and Personal, 1918-1989. The Professional-USDA series consists of 1.5 linear feet of material arranged alphabetically by type of material or topic. The Personal series totals 1 linear foot of correspondence, education materials, and writings. The writings, largely reminiscences, form the bulk of this series.
