Ralph Clinton Wood was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He earned degrees in history and economics from Wesleyan University. Wood married Dorothy Hays in 1936. He worked for the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Department of Commerce before serving in World War II. Wood then worked in France for the Economic Cooperation Administration on the Marshall Plan, and for the U. S. Mission to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. After returning to the United States in 1955, Wood worked for the Federal Reserve. Subjects of his work included: the European Economic Community, balance of payments, international economic cooperation, the Group of Ten nations, and the International Monetary Fund. Wood retired in 1973, and died on March 8, 1994 in Fairfax, Virginia.

The collection contains: correspondence, memoranda, reports, and publications. Subjects include: the Department of Commerce, the Marshall Plan, and the Division of International Finance of the Federal Reserve. The correspondence files discuss student life at Wesleyan University, the Works Progress Administration, the Department of Commerce, the Marshall Plan, and the Division of International Finance. Arranged alphabetically by type of material.
