BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Harry E. Barnard was an analytic chemist interested in food quality and purity. Born November 14, 1874, he earned a chemistry degree from the University of New Hampshire. Barnard became the State Food Commissioner of Indiana in 1905. During the World War 1 he headed the Indiana Food Administration. After the war, Barnard worked for the American Baking Institute and served on the board of directors for the American Child Health Association. Hoover asked Barnard in 1928 to serve at the White House Conference on Child Health Protection. Barnard died in December 1946.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection contains correspondence, photographs, a directory, a certificate, and biographical materials. Topics include  which offer a glimpse into his work with the White House Conference on Child Health and of his relationship with Herbert Hoover. Arranged alphabetically.
