Camp Rapidan

This 164 acre camp was built in the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains by the Hoovers. It was meant to be a place for them to go for vacation. Mrs. Hoover was in charge of the builders. There were log cabins for guests. The picture shows the Hoovers relaxing and enjoying the calmness of the area. They would take walks enjoying the woods and the Rapidan River. Mrs. Hoover liked to ride a horse while at the camp. Early on this was the only way to reach the camp until a road was built.
