Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.

Two ways in which Mrs. Hoover helped Girl Scouts was to start leadership training for adult leaders and develop "Little Houses" or cabins where scouts could meet and camp. Mrs. Hoover was most interested in scouts doing camping. Can you guess why she wanted girls to become "Rock Finders"?

Mrs. Hoover is quoted as saying "The girl's the thing! First, foremost and always!" Now you know why the girls in Girl Scouts always knew that Mrs. Hoover supported them.

If you had been a young girl in 1944, you might have been one of 200 Girl Scouts who attended Lou Henry Hoover's funeral along with many other hundreds of important people. This shows how important Mrs. Hoover was to the Girl Scouts of America.

The picture shows Lou Henry Hoover in her Girl Scout leader uniform.
