| This extraordinary miniature replica represents the mansion as it looked in 1799, the year of George Washington's death. Using a scale of 1 inch equals 1 foot, Mount Vernon in Miniature measures 10 feet long x 6 feet wide x 8 feet high overall. Mechanical operations periodically raise and lower two facades and the roof, enabling visitors to view the exterior as well as see inside each room. |

Door knobs turn, latches latch, windows open and close, candles and fireplaces are lit, and furniture drawers open. Every feature is true to Washington 's original designs and paint color. Each of the 22 rooms are furnished with miniature replicas of the furniture, carved mantels, and accessories that Washington acquired in America, France, England, and China. Mount Vernon in Miniature was crafted by talented artisans in America and throughout the world who labored over 4,500 hours on the project. On tour through 2006, the replica will return to Mount Vernon for permanent display in a new Orientation Center near George Washington's home. |
