A deep respect for tradition is found within all of Chinese
art. Formulas have been copied from the masters for centuries and passed
on to successive generations as a way to honor master artists, and also
for study and practice. In contrast to much of the work created by Western
artists, originality is not emphasized in traditional Chinese art. The
artist does not wish to violate the "qi" or inner spirit of
