Come explore National History Day 2013/2014 with the National Archives and Records Administration and experienced teachers and students. Education Specialists and Archivists will discuss the process of NHD participation using resources from the nationwide network of National Archives facilities. Veteran NHD teachers and students will be on hand to offer helpful insights and strategies for success. The webinar is free. RSVP LINK

What are the responsibilities of being an NHD judge? Are their rules for NHD judges? Learn how to be an NHD judge with the National Archives and Records Administration, the National History Day Organization, experienced teachers, and experienced students. National History Day Programs Director Lynne O’Hara will open the webinar with a brief introduction to NHD judges and the impact they have on the competition. Then, Andrea Reidell from the National Archives in Philadelphia and Regional Coordinator for NHD. Andrea will discuss the process of judging and the rules judges must follow. Craig Wright and Elizabeth Dinschel from the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum in West Branch, Iowa will discuss asking critical questions and writing meaningful evaluations to students. Millie Frese from the State Historical Society of Iowa, also the Iowa State NHD Coordinator, will present with a nationally-ranked student on what evaluations helped the students get to nationals and which evaluations were not helpful.
